Training – You can begin fire training as early as age 16. You provide the time, we’ll provide the Training. Training is provided free to Volunteers. Many courses are offered with collage credits. Other courses include Firefighter II, Emergency Medical Technician, Rescue Technician, Fire Officer, Hazardous Materials, Confined Space Rescue, and the list goes on.

Pride – A strong feeling of pride and partnership by knowing you and your brothers and sisters belong to an elite group that are dedicated to becoming the best at what we do.

Tradition - Since Benjamin Franklin organized the first volunteer firefighters, ordinary people, like you, have carried on a long tradition of Brotherhood. Our members are provided free training to become a firefighter. Some will choose to pay it back by teaching those that come after them, and they will pay it back by teaching those that come after them, etc. By becoming a volunteer you will have the opportunity to go as far as you desire in the organization. It’s your civic duty to keep the tradition alive!

“Live-ins” – Members that have completed the basic firefighting / E.M.S. courses needed to ride, may become a “live-in”. Live-ins usually spend more time at the station than the average member. What is Expected from You…

Make no mistake. Firefighting is not a hobby. It’s a lifestyle that may not be for "just anyone". Everyone at Middleborough is 100% Volunteer. No one receives any money for the work we do. The organization is para-military, meaning there is a rank structure. You will see Chiefs, Captains, Lieutenants, Drivers, and Firefighters.

As a part of the organization we work together with each other, continuously dedicating our time and efforts to those that call 911 for your help, and every other aspect of keeping the organization functioning.

When someone calls 911… 911 call us.

We are expected to drop whatever we are doing and head to the station to put the fire engine on the road or staff the other units while our brothers and sisters are on a call. You will learn to balance your time. Like most of us, you will get used to getting out of a warm bed at night to help someone, microwaving your dinner after returning from helping someone, and then going to your job.

Training minimums and call minimums are set to help guide you. You are also expected to advance with-in the organization by continuing to train. The fire service is always changing, from Safety to Technology, and it’s up to all of us to keep up.

So, If you read this far... your next step is to fill out that application and call us!
